Conventions
At first, we were unsure of what film genre we wanted to use, so we decided to research the conventions of Drama, Action/Adventure and Thriller films to see if this made our decision easier.
Dramas include:

Real-life situations and people, normally played in a serious way.

Tackling emotional themes like poverty, mental health issues, addiction, discrimination etc.

Presents a journey of the characters physically and (usually) emotionally- at best and at worst.

A protagonist that is relatable.

Usually an abrupt plot twist.

Challenges the stereotypes and norms.

Filled with climaxes and anti-climaxes to keep the audience emotionally involved.

Normally set in 'rougher' areas e.g. council estates.

Clear groups of people such as protagonist, antagonist, family and/or friends of protagonist.

Opening ends on a cliffhanger.

Dark lighting/ clothing.
Action/Adventures include:

Always has at least one antagonist and protagonist.

Lots of handheld shots and fast cut editing.
-
Protagonist is often aced with dangerous situations.

Very complex plots that are built up through protagonist dealing with problems/obstacles, which also helps to build up/develop character.

Not realistic

Tries to keep audience on the edge of their seats and keep them watching.
Thrillers include:

A fight/clash between protagonist and antagonist.

High tempo music and fast cuts.
-
Uses low key lighting.
-
A lot of close ups and extreme close ups.
-
Use of jump cuts.
-
Slow tempo music that builds up to increase tension.
